The Wing, a women-focused co-working space, has hired Celestine Maddy as senior vice president of marketing and communications, according to Adweek. Maddy is going to head up social media, creative, and content for The Wing along with marketing and communications. Previously, Maddy served as the vice president of marketing at Foursquare. And Maddy also served as the VP of Marketing at Reddit.

The Wing — which was founded in October 2016 by Audrey Gelman and Lauren Kassan — expanded to 14 locations in 9 cities with over 10,000 members. And it offers amenities such as childcare and scholarships for entrepreneurs who are unable to afford the membership. Plus the facilities have pumping rooms for breastfeeding parents and beauty rooms with showers, slippers, and robes available.

The Wing also changed its policy to allow all genders. The Wing made this adjustment to make it’s business more inclusive for gender-nonconforming members and due to a $12 million discrimination lawsuit. The NYC Commission on Human Rights also investigated The Wing for excluding men.

The Wing is well-known for its diverse staff as 50% of the executive team are women of color. And Gelman is also known as the first visibly pregnant CEO featured on the cover of a business magazine (Inc. September 2019 issue).

“She is a visionary and a creative leader who immediately recognized the immense opportunity areas for The Wing,” explained Gelman via Adweek. “(She has) institutional knowledge around community building, is an excellent storyteller, and deeply invested in building happy, high-functioning teams and nurturing talent. Celestine is going to be a transformative addition to our executive team and The Wing community.”
