One of the co-founders and the current CEO of Krillion is Joe Toledano, who was also the Director of Business Development for Yahoo! Search. Given this expertise, it is not surprise that company was able to develop a search-related service and was able to attain a patent for a Krillion Localization Engine™. The company is based in Mountain View and has raised $3 million from Hummer Winblad Venture Partners.
In terms of vastness, Krillion searches across 275 million result pages through 40,000 cities/towns for appliances. The search engine then aggregates results from stores such as Lowes, Home Depot, and Sear’s [Source: StartupSquad].
Currently the website specializes in finding items such Dishwashers, Dryers, Ranges, Refrigerators, and Washing Machines. More categories are planned on being added later. Krillion is currently looking for advertisers to post sponsored link ads.
“Krillion delivers local search results that combine very specific product information with very specific locality information. These results truly are ‘actionable’ meaning that when consumers have completed their Internet research, they can grab their keys, hop into the car, drive to the store and buy the product,” stated Joel Toledano, co-founder and current CEO of Krillion.
The other founder of the company is Roger Spreen, who previously was the co-founder/CTO of Tirata, Inc.
I don’t know about you, but when I think of major appliances, I think of game shows from the 80’s and 90’s like The Price is Right. “You could go home with this brand new Whirlpool dishwasher!” [Disclosure: I have an interview with Whirlpool this week for a supply-chain position]
