Groupon Now Hits 1.5 Million Deals Sold


As you know Groupon.com lets you buy a daily deal through an e-mail. You cannot use that discount on the same day, but you can use deals on the same day that are purchased through Groupon Now. Groupon has announced that Groupon Now sold 1.5 million deals in about a year. It took the original Groupon 15 months to hit that same milestone. The 1.5 millionth purchase was made at CiCi Nails in Chicago where someone bought a $42 manicure and pedicure for $30. Merchants are able to customize Groupon Now through a dashboard and managing how many people can take advantage of the offer at a time. Groupon Now is available in 31 out of 175 North American Groupon markets. They plan to expand Groupon Now to additional markets soon.

Socialcam Raises Funding From 46 Angel Investors

Socialcam is an iPhone app that spun off of video sharing website Justin.tv last year as part of Y Combinators winter 2012 class. Socialcam has raised seed funding from 46 well known angel investors. Socialcam’s fiercest competitor is Viddy. They have been fighting back and forth as the top Photo & Video app recently. Socialcam has reportedly surpassed the 20 million user mark. Facebook Announcing New Tool That Will Save Lives Tomorrow


Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg and COO Sheryl Sandberg have conducted interviews with ABC News that will air tomorrow. In the interview, Zuckerberg and Sandberg revealed a new tool that will help save lives through Facebook. ABC News’ Robin Roberts and Diane Sawyer conducted the interviews. Mark Zuckerberg will appear on “Good Morning America” on Tuesday where he gives Robin Roberts a first look at the Facebook tool. On “World News With Diane Sawyer,” Sheryl Sandberg sits down for an exclusive interview to discuss personal stories that led to this new initiative. Portions of both interviews will appear on “Nightline” and Yahoo! “Newsmakers.”

Verizon Announces $80 1GB Data, Unlimited Talk/Text Prepaid Plan, and MiFi Hotspot


Verizon Wireless has announced an $80 prepaid plan that includes unlimited calling and texting and 1GB of data. You will need to buy a Samsung Illusion for $169.99 to use with this plan and it will run on 3G data speeds. Not bad considering that Verizon’s current prepaid smartphone deal is $94.99 for unlimited talk and text plus another $30 for unlimited data.

Java Creator James Gosling Says Google Totally Slimed Sun


Java creator James Gosling believes that Google “totally slimed” Sun Microsystems by using a large amount of Java without paying for a license. He said that he agrees with Oracle in the lawsuit between them and Google. Gosling quit his job at Sun shortly after Oracle bought the company and joined Google. Gosling then quit Google and is now working at a startup company called Liquid Robotics.

U.K. Court Says The Pirate Bay Must Be Blocked By ISPs


The Pirate Bay must be blocked by U.K. ISPs according to the High Court. The Pirate Bay is known for linking to torrent download files of music and movies. Sky, Everything Everywhere, TalkTalk, O2, and Virgin Media have been ordered to do everything in their power to prevent users from accessing The Pirate Bay. U.K. ISP BT said that they need a few more weeks to consider their position on blocking the site.
