Gartner: Almost 75% Of Smartphones Sold In Q1 Were Android

Gartner has released some stats about Q1 mobile handset sales.  Gartner has revealed that Android was the smartphone of choice for that quarter with Samsung retaining the dominant position for global marketshare.  Global mobile phone shipments hit around 426 million in Q1 2013, which is a marginal increase year-on-year of 0.7%.  Worldwide smartphone sales totaled 210 million in Q1 2013, which is up 42.9% based on the same quarter last year.

Apple Has A Large Police Investigation Backlog For Device Decryption

Whenever the police seizes iPhones and iPads from suspects and criminals, they generally send Apple a request to help them decrypt information.  These requests have become so common that Apple now has a large waiting list.  According to court documents reviewed by CNET, an agent from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives were told that there would be a 7-week wait before Apple can handle the case that he submitted.

Microsoft Exec: Do Not Expect iTunes App On Windows “Any Time Soon”

According to Microsoft Windows CFO Tami Reller, the company will support the most popular apps in the Apple App Store within their own app store.  However, Microsoft believes that the actual Apple iTunes software is not coming anytime soon.  There are now over 60,000 apps in the Windows Store with about 250 million downloads.

Apple Supplier Pegatron Is Increasing Workforce By 40% In Q2

Pegatron is major Apple supplier that builds the iPhone and the iPad.  The company is increasing the number of workers they have in China by about 40% around the second half of the year, causing speculation that a new cheaper iPhone is on the way.  Pegatron has around roughly 100,000 workers as of right now.

Apple Wants To See Android Source Code As Part Of Samsung Lawsuit

believes that Google is withholding details about the way that Samsung is using Android‘s source code.  Apple is asking U.S. Magistrate Judge Paul Grewal in San Jose to force Google to turn over documents that are related to the Android operating system.  In Apple’s second patent-infringement lawsuit against Samsung in the same court, they are arguing that Android is used in all of Samsung’s allegedly infringing products and it “provides much of the accused functionality.”

American Airlines Report Less Injuries Due To iPad Switch

American Airlines replaced heavy airline manuals with Apple iPads in December 2011.  iPads can be used throughout all phase of a flight.  American Airlines is the only carrier that has been able to do this so far.  Pilots can also use iPads when the planes are below 10,000 feet too.
