Apple has updated the Apple TV with ABC News, PBS Kids, AOL On, and Willow TV. The streaming set-top box is staying relevant with the occasional app refresh. ABC News will offer access to live and on-demand video around the clock just like the Bloomberg app on the Apple TV. The ABC News app is free unlike the Watch ABC app. The Flickr client has been redesigned on the Apple TV as well.

Apple Inc. (AAPL) announces 20 million Apple TVs have been sold

Towards the end of the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) quarterly call today, CEO Tim Cook reported numbers for the Apple TV. Cook said that the company sold over 20 million Apple TV devices since the product launched in 2007. The milestone was announced when Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster asked Cook about his thoughts on Amazon partnering with HBO.

Apple Inc. (AAPL) TV gets A&E, History, and Lifetime channels

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has added three new channels to the Apple TV streaming media player: A&E, The History Channel, and Lifetime. These channels require a cable subscription to unlock the full content. The most recent episodes of shows are available without unlocking the channels. Each channel only supports DirecTV, Verizon FiOS, and Cablevision Optimum, but the network says it will add support for more providers soon.

Apple launches an Apple TV channel to celebrate The Beatles

Apple has announced that they have added an Apple TV channel to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Beatles. The channel lets Apple TV users watch The Beatles perform on “The Ed Sullivan Show” for a limited time.

Apple TV has added “Red Bull TV” channel to the group of channels available on the service. The Red Bull channel shows action sports content with branding from the energy drink. The channel has live event coverage along with curated playlists and on-demand content. The Red Bull TV channel is now available worldwide for free.

Apple TV now has four new channels. The set-top box will now have more ways to watch movies and cable TV access from ABC. The four new channels are “Watch ABC,” Crackle, Bloomberg, and KORTV (Korean channel). This past summer, Apple TV received Vevo, Weather Channel, Smithsonian, and Disney.

Netflix iOS App Gets Updated To Support AirPlay

The Netflix iOS app has been updated today.  Now the Netflix iOS app supports AirPlay so you can stream content from your iPhone or iPad to your Apple TV.  the app will stream HD if your Internet connection is fast enough too.  The features will be fully rolled out by mid-October. The new Netflix app also supports iOS 7. Previously AirPlay required streaming video from an iPhone or iPad over WiFi from Apple TV. This past July, Netflix released an updated Android app that supported 1080p HD video.
