AT&T Cuts Unlimited Data from Jailbroken Tethered Phones

In March AT&T announced that tethered smartphones require tethering plans, warning customers with jailbroken iPhones to go legit with their illegal mobile hotspots. The company is now actively targeting illegal tethering and contacting perpetrators with jailbroken phones with a few options: stop tethering and keep your current data plan, or start paying for a tethering plan. Customers who don’t “proactively” sign up for the tethering plan will have it added to their bills anyway, as AT&T passive-aggressively warns, “we’ll go ahead and add the tethering plan on their behalf.” Time to give in on your days of jailbroken glory, because the carriers know and they’re not going to be forgiving.
