Dropbox Snags Another Google Exec

Dropbox, the cloud storage startup, has hired Google lawyer Ramsey Homsany. The company’s growth inspired them to hire Homsany as General Counsel, protection for their fast-growing company and the private files for which they are responsible. TechCrunch reports that Dropbox already boasts more than 25 million users and will soon be worth billions.
Christopher Soghoian Suing Dropbox For Allegedly Deceiving Users About Security and Encryption

Christopher Soghoian is a Ph.D. student that alleges that cloud file storage service Dropbox.com deceives users about the security and encryption of their services. Soghoian made the complaint through the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Soghoian said that Dropbox could see the content of files, which puts their users at risk of government searches.

Dropbox Surpasses 25 Million Users

Dropbox is a file storage service that was founded in 2007 by Drew Houston and Arash Ferdowski. Dropbox was one of the earliest Y Combinator incubator companies. Dropbox has 25 million users and is seeing about 200 million files saved per day. Over 1 million files are being saved every 5 minutes. About a year ago Dropbox had 4 million users and two years ago they had 2 million in late 2009.

Dropbox is a cloud storage and syncing service that is on track to earn $100 million in revenue this year, giving them a valuation worth $1-$2 billion. The first 2GB of cloud storage on Dropbox is free and after that, there is a monthly fee. As cloud server storage prices are dropping for suppliers, Dropbox’s margins are constantly improving. Dropbox Announces Version 1.0

Dropbox has announced that version 1.0 is now available. Version 1.0 has bug fixes, reduced resource usage, extended attributes, selective sync, and an installation wizard. The Mac OS X version of Dropbox uses Cocoa so it has more of a native Mac feeling to it. Dropbox keeps files synced between computers using cloud computing.
