I Don’t Believe The Internet Has Monopolists [OPINION]


The Wall Street Journal wrote an extensive article, titled “In The Grip of the New Monopolists,” about how the Internet does not feel like a model for what the “free market is supposed to look like—competition in its purest form.” In my opinion, the Internet does not feel like a monopoly at all.

Groupon and eBay Make A Strategic Partnership


Groupon and eBay have made a strategic partnership. On the website groupon.ebay.com, you can earn 5% back in eBay Bucks if you buy a Groupon deal. Google, Apple, and Other Tech Companies Respond To Paul Allen’s Lawsuit


Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG), Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), eBay Inc. (NASDAQ:EBAY), AOL, Inc. (NYSE:AOL), Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX), Office Depot, Inc. (NYSE:ODP), Staples, Inc. (NASDAQ:SPLS), Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO), and Facebook all got together to fight back against the lawsuit that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) co-founder Paul Allen filed against them. Google led the response team by saying that the lawsuit does not back up its claims that they are violating approaches that were pioneered by Interval Research, a defunct incubator company that was financed by Allen.

PayPal Now Has Over 90 Million Active Accounts


eBay Inc. (NASDAQ:EBAY) has announced their quarterly earnings and a lot of their strong performance was due to ownership of PayPal. PayPal is growing by leaps and bounds. eBay’s overall third quarter income rose 23% and there was a 0.5% increase in revenue. There has been a 3% rise in the total volume of goods sold through eBay, but this does not include automobiles. PayPal ended the quarter with 90 million active users and revenues were at $838 million. eBay’s third quarter profit as a whole was up to $431.9 million — they were at $350 million last year during the same period. eBay Marketplaces President Lorrie Norrington Resigning


eBay Marketplaces President Lorrie Norrington is resigning from the company for “personal reasons.” Until a replacement is found, the Marketplaces management team will report to eBay CEO John Donahoe. Norrington has been President of eBay Marketplaces since July 2008.

Judge Rules In Favor of eBay Versus Craigslist Over Equity Case


A judge has ruled in favor of eBay Inc. (NASDAQ:EBAY) over an equity case with craigslist. A judge reinstated eBay’s 28.4% stake in Craigslist. But the judge ruled that Craigslist can keep eBay off of their board of directors.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) co-founder Paul Allen is not messing around. He has filed a lawsuit against Google, Facebook, Apple, eBay, Yahoo!, AOL, Netflix, Office Depot, OfficeMax, Staples, and YouTube over patents. Paul Allen claims he owns the rights to pop-up stock quotes on websites, related news articles on websites, and videos on the sides of your screen.

eBay Creates Bar-Code Scanning App For Half.com


eBay Inc. (NASDAQ:EBAY) acquired a company called Occipital this past June. Occipital created an iPhone application called RedLaser, which had the ability to read bar-codes and find deals specific to that product across multiple retail channels. eBay is applying this technology to their Half.com web property.
