Freelancer.com, the largest freelancing and crowdsourcing marketplace company based on total number of users and jobs posted, has announced that it has acquired Channel 40. Channel 40 is an enterprise marketplace that connects freight owners with transport operators.
Through the acquisition, Freelancer.com has launched a new global marketplace for shipping, transportation, and freight known as Freightlancer. Freightlancer spans from complex enterprise haulage to consumer metro deliveries in 247 countries, regions, and territories.
“Freightlancer is powered by the world’s largest human labor cloud of over 30 million freelancers, our rapidly growing Enterprise division and our global payments business Escrow.com,” said Freelancer.com CEO Matt Barrie in a statement.
Channel 40 was founded in 2016 by mining executive Tom Cavanagh. Cavanagh is the CEO and founder of EMS Group, which is one of the largest underground mining and tunneling service providers in Australia.
How does Channel 40 work? Channel 40 services the construction, mining, rail, tunneling, and oil & gas industries. The company has more than 6,000 freight operators in the marketplace. And in the last year, Channel 40 shipped over $4.5 million of freight within the Asia Pacific and internationally to the United States and Europe.
MPC Global CEO Manny Pereira said that getting his company’s purchases to the US through Freightlancer is always easy. And he said that the team the Freightlancer team manages everything for them and never had a problem with shipments.
