Instagram Now Has Photo Tagging

Facebook subsidiary and photo sharing social network, Instagram, now has the ability for you to properly tag your friends.  This new feature is called “Photos Of You.”  In the past, you would have to tag your friends in the comments section of a photo by using the “@” symbol.  Now you can tag another Instagram user simply by selecting a photo and clicking on “Add People.”  When you tap on the portion of the photo that you want to tag, Instagram asks you to “Search for a person.”  From there, the service will let you filter by your Instagram friends.

Instagram Has 100 Million Users and Nearly Half Of Them Are On Android

Instagram was acquired by Facebook for $1 billion about a year ago.  Instagram launched their Android app almost exactly one year ago and they hit over 1 million users in 24 hours.  Instagram now has over 100 million monthly active users and almost half of them use the Android operating system.

Instagram Hits 100 Million Monthly Active Users

Instagram, the popular photo sharing service, has announced that there are now over 100 million monthly active users.  This is 11.11% growth in over a month.  Instagram launched only two and a half years ago.  Instagram said last month that they are handling around 40 million photos per day, 8,500 likes per second, and 1,000 comments per second.

Israeli Army Battles With Instagram Controversy

An Israeli soldier has posted a photo a child with his back turned and a rifle scope aimed at him on Instagram.  The Israeli Army was heavily criticized by folks on the Internet as a result.  The photo was posted on January 25th by 20-year old Israeli soldier Mor Ostrovski.  The controversial photo shows the boy’s head zeroed in on through crosshairs.  It appears to be a Palestinian boy in a village.  Ostrovski took down the photo and his account has been deactivated.

Instagram Is Pushing To Have The Class Action Lawsuit Dismissed

Earlier this week, Instagram asked a federal court to toss out a class action lawsuit that was filed by users that are upset about the company’s changes to the terms of service.  The lawsuit was filed in December by an Instagram user that claimed Instagram breached contract.

Instagram Launches Feed For The Web

Instagram is the popular mobile photo social network that was acquired by Facebook for $1 billion in April 2012.  The company currently has 90 million monthly active users.  Up until now, Instagram users could only access the news feed through the mobile application.  “As of today, you can now browse your Instagram feed on the web — just like you do on your mobile device,” stated Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom in a blog post.

Instagram Says That They Did Not Lose 25% Of Their Users

When Instagram changed their terms of service to include a section about how they have the right to sell photos that people take on the mobile photo social network as ads, they were hit with a class action lawsuit.  National Geographic stopped uploading the photos to Instagram temporarily until Instagram changed their terms of service back to the way it was or make it more fair.  Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom said that the company did not intend on selling photos.  A company called AppData claimed that Instagram had a 25% drop in “daily active users” ever since the new terms of service was released.

Class Action Lawsuit Filed Against Instagram

Instagram has been hit with a class action lawsuit in a San Francisco federal court. When Instagram changed their terms of service earlier this month, the company said that they would have the right to use your photos for advertisements. Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom said that they had no intention to sell ads against the photos. He hinted that the company will likely monetize by placing relevant brand ads in the News Feed.
