Instagram Finally Rolls Out Long-Awaited Grid Reordering Feature

Instagram has officially begun rolling out the ability for users to rearrange posts on their profile grids, delivering one of the platform’s most requested features. The update, which became widely available on June 8, allows users on iPhone and Android to freely move posts to different positions without deleting or reposting content. Pinned posts will continue to remain fixed at the top of the profile.

Until now, Instagram profiles displayed posts in chronological order, with users only able to pin up to three posts. The new functionality enables creators, brands, and everyday users to customize the appearance of their profiles and highlight specific content regardless of when it was originally published. The feature had previously been available to select test groups before its broader rollout.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri first previewed the feature in early 2025, following criticism from users whose carefully curated layouts were disrupted by Instagram’s transition from square thumbnails to taller, vertically oriented images. Mosseri marked the official launch with a brief message on Instagram that read, “Finally.”

The new capability arrives as Instagram continues to focus on giving users greater control over how they present themselves on the platform. The company has described profile customization as part of its broader effort to reduce pressure around posting and encourage creativity. Earlier announcements also highlighted plans for additional features that would allow users to publish content to their profiles without necessarily pushing those posts into followers’ feeds.

Users with access to the feature can long-press a post and select the option to reorder the grid, then drag and drop posts into new positions while maintaining pinned posts at the top.
