Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has dropped the price of its second-generation tablet, the Surface Pro 2. The price drop is just ahead of the delivery of the Surface Pro 3. The price has been cut the price of certain Surface Pro 2 models sold in the U.S. by $100 each and others by $200. The 64GB Core i5 Surface Pro 2 is now $799 instead of $899. The 512GB is now $1,599 instead of $1,799.

This deal is for the Surface Pro with 128GB of storage. Best Buy likely wants to make room on the shelves for the Surface Pro 2, which launched in October 2013. The Surface Pro 2 with 128GB of storage costs $999.

According to DigiTimes, a Taiwan-based supply chain reported that Microsoft will be showcasing an 8-inch Surface tablet in June. Another 10-inch version of the tablet is also expected to arrive in Q3.

Microsoft Corporation has sold under 1.5 million Surface tablets according to Bloomberg. This number includes around 1 million Surface RT tablets and about 400,000 Surface Pro tablets. The Surface RT was released in October 2012 and the Surface Pro was released in January 2013. The 1.5 million figure is a small dent compared to the number of tablets that have been sold running on Android and iOS.
The Microsoft Surface Pro is going to be arriving at Best Buy at midnight on February 8th. The Surface Pro’s launch will be part of a special event. Microsoft is holding a private reception before the special launch event at Best Buy in Union Square according to ZDNet.
