Nintendo To Collect Royalties From ‘Let’s Play’ YouTube Videos

Nintendo is going to start collecting royalties from fan-made YouTube videos that contains content from their games.  Every time that a YouTube user uploads a walkthrough or “let’s play” video, Nintendo will generate revenues from YouTube.  The “let’s play” format generally features a gamer showing how to beat a level or how to collect points in a 10-30 minute video.

Nintendo Cuts Wii U Forecast

Nintendo has cut the forecasts for the Wii U console after sales failed to meet their expectations.  According to consumer research company NPD, the Wii U sold “well under” 100,000 consoles.  Nintendo said that they previously sold 460,000 systems in December, which means that demand for the product is dropping at a rapid pace.

Nintedo Exec Says Wii U Sales Are Steady

The CEO of Nintendo Co. Ltd. has announced that the year-end sales of the Wii U games console are steady, but they are not as strong as when the original Wii was launched.  “At the end of the Christmas season, it wasn’t as though stores in the U.S. had no Wii U left in stock, as it was when Wii was first sold in that popular boom. But sales are not bad, and I feel it’s selling steadily,” stated Nintendo President Satoru Iwata in an interview.

About 7,000 Nintendo Consoles Were Stolen At The Seattle Airport

Around 7,000 Nintendo Wii U consoles were stolen at the Seattle SeaTac airport.  Thieves at the airport managed to steal a cart with 7,000 consoles.  Since each console has a $300 price tag, this means that $2.1 million worth of consoles have been taken.  It is unknown whether Nintendo will be able to expedite a new set of consoles to the parties that were expecting the Wii U consoles that were stolen.

Nintendo has announced that the Nintendo TVii will be launching on December 20th.  The Nintendo TVii is a service that will complement the Wii U.  The Nintendo TVii was first introduced back in September and they plan to integrate streaming services, your cable box, and your DVR into a cross-searchable application.

Netflix Available On The Wii U GamePad and 1080p On The TV

Netflix has announced that their service is now available on the Wii U console in the U.S. and Canada.  The Wii U works on the Wii U GamePad controller and supports up to 1080p on your TV.  Netflix members can use the app immediately simply by signing in.  If you are not a Netflix user already, then you can sign up for a free trial on the Wii U.
