United Kingdom-based telecommunications company O2 has just fixed a glitch that allowed website owners to collect the phone numbers from people visiting their website on the O2 network. Lewis Peckover created a website with a script on it that showed the phone number of the visitor that came in from O2′s network. Since O2 fixed the problem now, I doubt it Lewis’ website will work any more. The Information Commissioner is currently investigating O2 over this issue.

When the Palm Pre 2 goes for sale in the United Kingdom, they will not be subsidizing the phone with a contract. The phone will sell for about £399. Mobile gadget site Pocket-Lint spoke to all of the major carriers to find out. Orange said “We have no plans to stock it at the moment.” Vodafone said “We don’t plan to feature the device in the UK range.” And O2 said “The Palm Pre Two will not be available on O2. We offer a range of the best handsets through our product portfolio and regularly review this to ensure it continues to meet the demands of our customers.” [Pocket-Lint]

In the United Kingdom, within 16 months about one million iPhones have been sold. This is quite a milestone for Apple, but it appears that Nokia had less trouble achieving this milestone with their N95 smartphone. The N95 reached one million sales in about 7 months after they introduced it to the market in November 2007.
“iPhone sales are continuing to accelerate.” stated Matthew Kay, CEO O2 UK. By the close of 2008, Apple had sold about 17.38 million iPhones around the world. By the end of this year an analyst claims that Apple would have sold 45 million iPhones.
