Philips CEO Gerard Kleisterlee Joining Vodafone As Chairman


The CEO of Philips Gerard Kleisterlee is joining Vodafone as the chairman. Sir John Bond will be filling in for Gerard and is retiring from Philips on March 31. Kleisterlee will be appointed as the non-executive director of Vodafone on April 1. Sir John Bond was the chairman for 5 years. This announcement is the “culmination of a succession planning process which the board initiated in February 2010.” Kleisterlee joined Philips in 1974. He became President and CEO in April 2001. Philips CushionSpeaker Laptop Is Built For Comfort And Sound

Philips will be releasing a new device called the CushionSpeaker Laptop. This device is perfect for men especially concerned with fertility. The Philips CushionSpeaker is half speaker and half cushion. The integrated speaker connects to the laptop through a USB wire with no battery required. No word on price and availability yet. Philips Announces GoGear Ariaz and Opus PMPs

Philips announced earlier today that they have two new portable media players to advance their GoGear product line-up.  The GoGear Ariaz and the GoGear Opus will be joining the GoGear family of products.  The GoGear Ariaz (pictured above) has a 2″ LCD display, FM tuner, built-in mic, and will be available in 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB.  The Ariaz has “touchscreen buttons” and a large rocker key.

The GoGear Opus has a 2.8″ QVGA display with 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB.  Opus has built-in Bluetooth and BBC iPlayer support.

Release dates are unknown, but both will most likely be available in Europe in April for about €79 and €179 ($100 to $230).

Philips Launching World’s First 21:9 LCD TV


Most standard TVs have a 4:3 ratio and wide-screen TVs have about a 16:9.  This leaves black borders left at the top and bottom when watching certain movies.  This is something that Philips wants to eliminate by unveiling the world’s first 21:9 LCD TV.
