Former Indian Institute of Technology and Purdue University student Vikram Buddhi was sentenced today to about 57 months in prison. After that he will be on 3 years of supervised release. The reason for his arrest was because he posted hate messages in 2006 to former President George W. Bush, former Vice President Dick Cheney, and their wives. He also called for the bombings of U.S. buildings. Buddhi is a 38 year old Purdue PhD student.

Buddhi can attempt to appeal the sentence at a court in Chicago within the next 10 days. Buddhi already went to prison April 2006. The months he spent in prison back then will most likely be deducted in his next sentence. Buddhi fired his own lawyer and represented himself. He said the trial had been unfair after the judgment. Judge James T. Moody gave an order that Buddhi will be charged today.

Nora Flood is a student at Purdue University.  At a design competition, she earned first place for a concept about a portable fire escape ladder.  Let’s say that a fire breaks out at your house, this will allow you to find a safe window and open up a ladder that latches on to window frame.  Many other ladders require a latch on to the sill, but this could slip out of place.  The concept is called “Escape.”
