Bitcoin processor company Bitpay raises $30 million in funding

Bitpay, a Bitcoin processor company, has received $30 million in funding from a group of investors that include Virgin Group Chairman Richard Branson and Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang. Based on this round of funding, Bitpay is now valued at about $160 million. Virgin Group is accepting Bitcoin as a payment for people that want to make a trip into outer space through Virgin Galactic.

Expa raises $50 million in funding

You may know Garrett Camp as the founder of StumbleUpon and Uber. Now he is launching a startup studio called Expa and it has
raised $50 million in funding from investors like Virgin founder Richard Branson, HP CEO Meg Whitman, Google board member Ram Shriram, Tim Ferriss, Li Ka-shing, First Round Capital, Lerer Ventures, WordPress founder Matt Mullenweg, Sherpa Ventures, Booking.com Chairman Kees Koolen, SV Angel, and Behance founder Scott Belsky. Expa will work from founders from inception to product-market. Expa will invest between $500,000 and $1 million per business. There is around 20 people working on Expa.

Elon Musk and Richard Branson Give Their Opinions On Entrepreneurship [Video]


When it comes to starting your own company, two of the most experienced entrepreneurs are Richard Branson and Elon Musk.  Between the two of them, they have started several multibillion ventures including PayPal, Tesla Motors, SpaceX, Virgin Records, V2 Records, and Virgin Airlines.  This past week, the two of them participated in a Google+ Hangout session, which was sponsored jointly by Google for Entrepreneurs and Virgin Unite.  Above is the video of the Google+ Hangout, it is definitely worth a listen.

Hailo Raises $30.6 Million In Series B

Hailo is a service that lets you summon a black cab in London, Boston, Chicago, Dublin, and Toronto.  The company has raised $30.6 million in Series B funding led by Union Square Ventures with participation from Japanese telecommunications company KDDI, Richard Branson (founder/chairman of Virgin Group), Phenomen Ventures, Felicis Ventures, Red Swan Ventures, Wellington Partners, and Atomico Ventures. Hailo has raised a total of about $50 million thus far.

Richard Branson Hits 1 Million LinkedIn Followers

Virgin founder and chairman Richard Branson has hit 1 million LinkedIn followers.  He is the first person to hit this number.  LinkedIn launched the influencers program about two months ago.  About 150 people were selected to post original content and now that number is at 170.

Adrian Grenier and Peter Glatzer Launches Sustainable Development Website SHFT


Peter Glatzer and Adrian Grenier has launched a new website called SHFT, which is a digital media platform that allows people to read content and buy products that are related to sustainable development. Galtzer is an indie film producer and Grenier is known for playing the character Vincent Chase on the hit show Entourage. The tagline of the website is “Curating the Culture of Today’s Environment.”
