Apple Releases First iPhone 4S Ad Featuring Siri [VIDEO]

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has released their first TV commercial that features the iPhone 4S and the Siri virtual assistant. The commercial features using Siri to look up Google Maps, how to tie a bow tie, check the weather, set up a location-based remind, play music, set up an alarm clock, and play a text message. Apple Rumored To Be In Discussions With Nuance About A Deal

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is rumored to be in discussions with Nuance about a deal that involves bringing advanced voice recognition abilities to iOS 5. Nuance is already direct partner with Apple subsidiary Siri. And Apple has been in negotiations for either acquiring Nuance completely or forming a partnership.

Apple Acquires Mobile Virtual Assistant App Company Siri

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has acquired virtual assistant mobile application company Siri. Siri is essentially a “getting-things-done” application. You just press the green button that says “Say It” and it brings up a solution to your problem. For example, if you say “I’m looking for an Italian restaurant in San Jose,” the application will pull up information about the Italian restaurants in that area. You can also say you are looking for a table for two and it will use OpenTable to confirm a reservation.

Virtual Personal Assistant Siri Raises $15.5 Million

Siri is a startup that utilizes speech-to-text and searches for what you want it to through voice commands. They call it a virtual personal assistant (VPA). The company raised $15.5 million in its second round of funding from Menlo Ventures and Morgenthaler Ventures.
For example you could tell the device that you want to see a movie and it will find tickets prices and showtimes. Or you can call a cab when you are out of town. Previously Siri raised $8.5 million in funding. The company has not officially launched its product yet.
