Sonos LogoSonos[1] is a company that develops wireless, digital music streaming players. This digital music player can be used all over the house and supports RealNetworks’ Rhapsody[2] as of last September. And the company has also recently signed a deal with Pandora as well. Sonos’ Digital Music Systems have the ability to read music from network hard drives and URLs and play it.

It was recently discovered that Sonos raised $6 million in Series B funding from BV Capital[3] and several other investors. This adds on to the $32 million Series A funding that Sonos was received. Of the $32 million Series A, BV Capital accounted for $10 million of it.

Sonos is hyper-competitively chasing after other music players like the Microsoft Zune and Apple iPod and by signing deals with online music companies, it only whets the appetite for technology geeks even more.

Sonos LogoSonos, a producer of digital home music devices have announced that their new devices will be able to support Rhapsody’s streaming music.

Rhapsody is a paid subscriber product created by Real Networks.  Rhapsody users will be able to stream any of the songs from Rhapsody’s library of over 100 radio stations and over 2,000,000 songs from their Sonos device.  For unlimited usage, you must pay a $9.99 fee per month to Rhapsody.

Here is a screenshot of what adding tracks from Rhapsody would look like:

Sonos has grown exponentially since their founding in 2002 and currently sells their products in 25 countries.  If you do not have any of their products and are interested in buying them, you can always refer to their website where Sonos controllers and ZonePlayers are selling from $399-$499.

Before Sonos came into the picture, Rhapsody has been supporting devices produced by SanDisk, Samsung, RCA, Creative, Philips, and Palm so it is easy to tell that in such a market where there are major players already settled, this is huge news for Sonos.
