Mobile payment services company Square is raising a new round of funding that would give them a billion dollar valuation. It is believed that Square is raising $50 million or more. The talks of the new round of funding is in early stages as of right now. Square is processing about $3 million per day in mobile payments. Square is also working on a cash register service. Square Was Almost Named Squirrel Until Dorsey Talked To Apple

When accepting the award at the 21st Century Visionary award at San Francisco’s Commonwealth Club earlier this week, Jack Dorsey spoke about Twitter and Square. Dorsey is a co-founder at Twitter and founded Square. Dorsey said that the company name Square was almost named “Squirrel” and the card reader dongle was made of wood and shaped like an acorn.

Mobile payments company Square has hit $1 million in payments per day according to founder Jack Dorsey. Last fall Square was processing a few million transactions per week. Square recently raised $27.5 million in a new round of funding and announced that they are dropping the $0.15 per transaction charge for businesses that use their services.
