GiftCards.com, one of the top gift card websites, has acquired a startup called Giftly.  The terms of the acquisition was undisclosed.  Based in San Francisco, California, Giftly lets users send gift credits to recipients based on their location when redeeming a gift rather than issuing plastic cards.

Dwolla Raises $16.5 Million

Dwolla is a payments startup company that has raised $16.5 million in Series C funding led by Andreessen Horowitz.  Other investors that participated in this round include Village Ventures, Thrive Capital, and Union Square Ventures.  Dwolla plans on using the funding to double their staff of 80 members and will be expanding to San Francisco from Des Moines, Iowa.

JIBE Raises $10 Million In Series B

JIBE is a mobile job applications startup company that has raised $10 millin in Series B funding led by Longworth Venture Partners.  Existing investors like Polaris Partners, Lerer Ventures, DFJ, DFJ Gotham, and Thrive Capital have joined this round also.  JIBE used to be known as a company called localbacon.

Thrive Capital Raises $150 Million

Thrive Capital

Thrive Capital is a venture capital company that is based in Manhattan and is run by Josh Kushner.  Thrive has raised $150 million for their latest fund as they are seeking to raise its profile and become more competitive against larger companies.  Thrive spent aronud 10 weeks raising the fund and have received commitments from new and existing limited partners like Princeton University, Hall Capital Partners, and the Wellcome Trust.

OnSwipe Raises $5 Million In “Series Awesome”


OnSwipe is a tablet publishing company that has raised $5 million in “Series Awesome.” This past January OnSwipe raised $1 million in seed funding. This round of funding was led by Spark Capital and followed on by Lightbank. Yuri Milner, Lerer Ventures, SV Angel, Betaworks, Morado, Eniac Ventures, and Thrive Capital also participated in this round.

Social Media Marketing Company GraphEffect Raises $2 Million


Focused Labs is a social media marketing services company that is being rebranded as GraphEffect. The company has raised $2 million in funding from CrossCut Ventures, Rincon Venture Partners, Founder Collective, Baroda Ventures, Lerer Ventures, Thrive Capital, Matt Coffin, and Stephano Kim. GraphEffect is a part of the Facebook Advertising API beta program. They help companies and brand agencies increase the number of “Likes” and helps acquire new customers through social media. GraphEffect was co-founded by Clark Landry and James Borow.

Art.sy Raises $1.25 Million From Several Angel Investors


Art.sy is a New York City based startup company that has raised $1.25 million in funding. Investors in Art.sy include Google CEO Eric Schmidt, Rupert Murdoch’s wife Wendi, Jack Dorsey (Twitter co-founder), Jim Breyer, Dash Zhukova, Founder Collective, Keith Rabois, David Tisch, Charlei Cheever, Dave Morin, and David Kidder. Art.sy’s funding was led by Thrive Capital. Art.sy raised $160,000 in seed funding and launched at TechCrunch Disrupt. Art.sy was founded by 24 year old founder Carter Cleveland and he decided to make the website private again. Now he is shifting his service to be more focused on high-end art deals. [TechCrunch]
