Kickstarter Hits Over $16,000 For RoboCop Statue In Detroit

There is a Rocky statue in Philadelphia and it is an attraction. What Detroit needs is a statue of a movie hero as well. After all Detroit is becoming the “Hollywood of the Midwest.” In an initiative that started from a random tweet to Detroit Mayor Bing, Kickstarter has a $50,000 campaign to get a statue of RoboCop erected in the city. After working in politics for the last 7 years, he has announced on Twitter that he is getting back into acting. “Exciting news. Twitter wants advertisers to cough up more money for “Promoted Trends.” Promoted Trends are Twitter’s most consistent revenue source and they plan on increasing the prices in the next few months. Twitter Valuation Pegged At $8-$10 Billion By Acquisition Suitors

According to potential acquisition suitors, Twitter is valued at $8-$10 billion. Acquisition talks are at low level by Google and Facebook executives and have gone nowhere. Twitter made $45 million in 2010 revenue, but lost money on hiring and running data centers. Twitter is expecting to hit $100 million in 2011 revenues.

Twitter Hits 4,064 Tweets Per Second During Super Bowl

About 162.9 million people watched the Super Bowl this year and Twitter hit a record number of tweets per second (4,064). This is the highest tweets-per-second (TPS) that Twitter has hit. The previous record was 3,283 TPS when Japan hit the new year. Tweets during the game really exploded when Usher appeared alongside the Black Eyed Peas during the halftime show. [Twitter Blog]
Twitter User Travis La Marr Fools Sony’s Kevin Butler Account Into Retweeting PS3 Jailbreak Code

Yesterday I wrote about how Sony is threatening to sue anyone who posts the jailbreak code for the PlayStation 3. Travis La Marr (@exiva) fooled Kevin Butler, a marketing character used by Sony to play the Vice President of various departments of PlayStation to retweet the jailbreak code. Twitter has raised $80 million from Andreessen Horowitz through stock in secondary markets. Andreessen Horowitz decided to make the investment since they are already major investors in other social companies like Zynga, Facebook, Groupon, and Foursquare. Twitter Community Upset At Kenneth Cole Account

Fashion retailer Kenneth Cole has a Twitter account that used a popular, yet controversial hashtag for their own selfish purposes and it was in poor taste. “Millions are in uproar in #Cairo. Rumor is they heard our new spring collection is now available online at http://bit.ly/KCairo -KC” said Kenneth Cole’s social media representative in a tweet. Kenneth Cole sent out an apology tweet, but it was too late. “Re Egypt tweet: we weren’t intending to make light of a serious situation. The government in Egypt took down the Internet a few days ago so protesters could not communicate with each other. The Internet has now been restored, including Facebook and Twitter. There are no traffic blocks in place and IP addresses are matching. [Renesys]
