Samsung Galaxy S III Confirmed As Official Olympic Phone

Last month, it was rumored that the Samsung Galaxy S III would be the official smartphone of the 2012 summer Olympics. Visa announced has officially announced that the S III would be the official London 2012 Olympic Games smartphone. Visa will provide NFC payments to athletes while they are competing in the city. The S III is Samsung’s flagship Android smartphone.

Around 1.5 Million Credit Cards Were Stolen From Global Payments


Late last month, I reported that Global Payments was hit with a data breach. Well it turns out that 1.5 million Visa and MasterCard accounts may have been compromised. The credit card numbers may have been exported, but no customer names, addresses, or social security numbers have been accessed. The original number was pegged at about 50,000 accounts. Global Payments believes that the situation is now contained and they are working with the Secret Service to investigate the incident. MasterCard and Visa sent a notice to customers who may have been affected.

Global Payments Hit With Data Breach, Affecting MasterCard and Visa Customers

Global Payments Inc. was hit with a data breach, which has put 50,000 Visa and MasterCard holders at risk. The cause of the breach was not immediately determined and so far it is unknown whether cardholders were hit with fraudulent transactions.

Visa Launching A Digital Wallet Service Called V.Me


Visa Inc. (NYSE:V) is preparing to launch a digital wallet service called V.me. Consumers will be able to fund V.me with various credit card sources including Visa, MasterCard, or their bank account. V.me will be able to be used when checking out with a user name and password instead of using a 16 digit number each time.

BankSimple Raises $10 Million Led By IA Ventures


BankSimple has announced $10 million in funding led by IA Ventures and previous investor Shasta Ventures. This is BankSimple’s Series B round of funding. The company previously raised $3.1 million in their Series A round. The company’s seed investors include IA Ventures, First Round Capital, SV Angel, Village Ventures, etc. That is not the only thing that the company had announced. They also made some partnerships.

Visa Acquires Mobile Financial Company Fundamo For $110 Million


Visa has acquired mobile financial services provider company Fundamo for $110 million. Fundamo works closely with financial institutions and network operators to provide mobile financial services to developing countries. The acquisition was made entirely in cash.

Visa Invests In Mobile Payment Company Square


Visa Inc. (NYSE:V) has invested an undisclosed amount into the mobile payment service founded two years ago by Jack Dorsey, Square. A Visa executive will be joining Square’s board of directors as a result.

Visa Acquires Virtual Goods Company PlaySpan For $190 Million


Visa Inc. (NYSE:V) has acquired virtual goods monetization company PlaySpan for $190 million. The acquisition includes additional payouts based on performance. Visa said that this deal complements the $2 billion acquisition they made for CyberSource.

Visa Testing Out iPhone NFC Payments In Europe


Visa has started to test out the near-field communications mobile payment system in Europe. The trial required on-device software to be installed on the iPhone test device and an accessory that has an NFC chip in it. Visa also requires retailers to have a hardware terminal that is capable of processing mobile payments. [BGR]

FBI Raids The Houses Of Pro-Wikileaks Operation Payback Activists


The Federal Bureau of Investigation has executed over 40 search warrants for those involved with Operation Payback. Operation Payback was a group of hackers that took down the Visa, Mastercard, and PayPal websites using DDoS attacks out of Wikileaks retaliation. Visa, Mastercard, and PayPal had dropped financial support for Wikileaks founder Julian Assange shortly after he released confidential government cables. The group behind Operation Payback is known as “Anonymous.”
