10x Genomics announced the acquisition of Proteintech Genomics, a division within Proteintech Group, expanding the company’s capabilities in proteomics and strengthening its multiomic research platform portfolio.
The acquisition adds Proteintech Genomics’ technologies, including the Human Discovery Panel, which the company says is the largest antibody-based single-cell protein panel designed for integrated analysis of intracellular proteins, cell surface proteins, and transcriptomic profiles within sequencing-compatible workflows. The Human Discovery Panel is compatible with 10x Genomics’ Flex chemistry and Flex Apex assay.
10x Genomics said the deal supports its broader strategy of integrating transcriptomic and proteomic information at the single-cell and spatial levels. The acquisition also aligns with the company’s plans to expand protein capabilities for its recently launched Atera platform.
Researchers are increasingly combining transcriptomic and proteomic measurements to gain complementary insights into cellular identity, state, and function, driving advances across immunology, oncology, neuroscience, and other areas of cell biology. The companies noted that scientists currently often rely on multiple vendors and workflows to integrate RNA and protein analysis in single-cell experiments.
Proteintech Genomics’ protein panels were specifically designed for 10x Genomics workflows and are already used by researchers to simultaneously analyze RNA and protein. The acquisition combines 10x Genomics’ expertise in scalable single-cell and spatial biology platforms with Proteintech Genomics’ protein detection capabilities.
10x Genomics said the transaction continues its efforts to expand multiomic technologies and accelerate biological discovery. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, and the company said the transaction is not expected to materially affect its near-term financial outlook.
KEY QUOTES:
“We believe the future of biological analysis will increasingly integrate transcriptomic and proteomic information at the single cell and spatial levels. The acquisition of Proteintech Genomics expands our capabilities in proteomics and supports our broader vision for richer multiomic approaches to understanding biology.”
Michael Schnall-Levin, Chief Technology Officer, Chief Strategy Officer And Founding Scientist, 10x Genomics
“From day one, Proteintech Genomics was built around the belief that RNA and protein measurements are most powerful when used together. Because our technologies were designed to integrate with 10x workflows, joining the 10x team feels like a natural next chapter. We are excited about the opportunity to accelerate innovation together and expand access to integrated multiomic approaches for researchers around the world. Single cell and spatial biology has always promised a more complete picture of cellular state, protein and RNA together, at scale, across tissues. We’re finally in a position to deliver on that promise.”
Dr. Kristopher Nazor, CEO, Proteintech Genomics
“Biology is bigger than transcriptomics alone. Bringing scalable protein measurements into single cell and spatial biology is an important step toward richer, more predictive views of cellular state and ultimately, virtual cell models that better reflect the complexity of living systems.”
Ci Chu, Senior Vice President, AI-Enabled Discovery, Xaira Therapeutics
