4DMedical announced an agreement to acquire Austrian software lung imaging company contextflow, establishing an immediate commercial and clinical platform in Europe and expanding its portfolio of AI-powered respiratory imaging solutions. The transaction strengthens 4DMedical’s global footprint across North America, Australia and New Zealand, and Europe, while adding capabilities in lung cancer screening and thoracic imaging.
Headquartered in Vienna, contextflow develops AI-based software to help radiologists identify and characterize lung diseases and cancer. The acquisition provides 4DMedical with a European team, established customer relationships, CE-marked products, and access to reimbursement pathways, accelerating market entry without the cost and time required to build operations organically. The combined opportunity expands 4DMedical’s addressable market and positions the company to capitalize on Europe’s respiratory and thoracic imaging market.
Following the transaction, contextflow CEO Markus Holzer will serve as General Manager of Europe and will lead the company’s expansion across the region. 4DMedical said the acquisition broadens its offering beyond functional lung imaging into AI-assisted lung cancer screening and enhances its network of clinical and industry relationships. The deal also preserves significant tax assets and was structured with a combination of cash, shares, and performance-based options.
4DMedical is known for its CT:VQ platform and software-based respiratory imaging technologies. The company said the acquisition supports its ambition to become a global leader in advanced lung health solutions and follows recent regulatory approvals and commercial milestones in the United States and Europe.
