55ip has expanded its unified managed account capabilities for registered investment advisors through an offering featuring investment solutions from J.P. Morgan Asset Management and BlackRock.
The enhanced platform combines managed and custom model portfolio strategies with equity separately managed accounts in a single account structure. The offering is powered by 55ip’s ActiveTax Technology and builds on the company’s existing capabilities spanning model portfolios, SMAs, and direct indexing.
The initial offering includes model portfolios with SMAs from J.P. Morgan Asset Management, 55ip’s parent company, and BlackRock, an established 55ip model partner. Additional asset managers are expected to join the platform later in 2026.
55ip is targeting growing demand for UMA structures among RIAs seeking to balance portfolio personalization with operating efficiency. Citing Cerulli research, the company said UMA assets are projected to reach approximately $3.7 trillion in the U.S. by the end of 2026.
The platform’s single-account structure can combine ETFs, mutual funds, and an active SMA using either an asset manager-provided model or an advisor-provided strategy. 55ip said this approach is designed to simplify operations while giving advisors more flexibility in constructing personalized portfolios.
Advisors will also receive portfolio visibility through the 55ip Portal, which will provide detailed information covering both the model and SMA components of the UMA. ActiveTax Technology will support tax-aware transitions and ongoing account management across the combined portfolio.
55ip said the expanded offering is intended to help RIAs address scalability challenges as they acquire new clients and manage increasingly complex portfolios. The structure is also designed to provide clients with direct ownership benefits associated with SMAs, including opportunities for tax-loss harvesting, while preserving the consistency and scalability offered by model portfolios.
The announcement follows 55ip’s previously announced work with InvestCloud on a future UMA offering that is expected to incorporate private investments for RIAs.
55ip is a wholly owned subsidiary of J.P. Morgan Asset Management and provides tax-smart investment technology, portfolio implementation, trading, rebalancing, tax transitions, and withdrawal capabilities for financial advisors.
KEY QUOTES:
“The rapid growth in the RIA channel highlights the issue of scale for advisors. Navigating the complexity of acquiring new clients, while contending with infrastructure challenges can be alleviated with the addition of a UMA to an advisor’s practice. We are excited to collaborate with two leading asset managers to meet the needs of a broader range of clients. These leading asset managers support 55ip in providing an expanded UMA solution on our platform that addresses the operational limitations advisors face without compromising personalization of investments.”
Gautam Sachdev, Chief Executive Officer Of 55ip
“Advisors want customized portfolios with tax management. Our collaboration with 55ip to deliver a model portfolio with an SMA, is a compelling value proposition for advisors. Many advisors seek the scalability and consistency of model portfolios but also see the benefits—as do their clients—that come with the direct ownership and tax-loss harvesting potential of SMAs, enabling them to focus on deepening client relationships.”
Stephen Kaplan, Managing Director And Head Of Customized Managed Account Solutions At J.P. Morgan Asset Management
“As demand from high-net-worth investors evolves, advisors are looking for ways to deliver both customization and efficiency. Combining model portfolios and SMAs within a single account enables more responsive tax management while unlocking the scale and capacity needed for advisors to grow their practice and deepen client relationships.”
