55ip, a tax-smart investment technology platform and a wholly owned subsidiary of J.P. Morgan, announced an expansion of its investment platform through a collaboration with T. Rowe Price to deliver custom model portfolios for financial advisors.
Through the collaboration, advisors can design and implement custom model portfolios using T. Rowe Price strategies, powered by 55ip’s ActiveTax Technology. The combined offering is designed to improve after-tax outcomes through tax-smart transitions, ongoing tax-loss harvesting, and tax-efficient withdrawals. Both firms will support the distribution and servicing of these models, which are now available to advisors.
The announcement comes as model portfolios continue to gain traction across the wealth management industry. According to Cerulli research, outsourced models surpassed $2.5 trillion in assets by the end of 2024, representing 23% growth year over year, and are projected to exceed $10 trillion by 2029. The research also found that 65% of model provider asset managers prioritize custom models, while 71% see them as a significant business opportunity.
The collaboration aims to combine T. Rowe Price’s investment expertise with 55ip’s tax optimization capabilities to help advisors scale their practices while delivering more personalized, tax-efficient portfolios for clients.
