5th Century Partners has made a strategic investment in ION PT Network, a clinician-managed physical therapy company serving the workers’ compensation market.
Founded in 2017 by physical therapist Joseph Noel, ION manages physical therapy care on behalf of payers, employers and third-party administrators while coordinating treatment through independent providers.
Each referral is assigned to a dedicated clinical case owner who serves as the primary contact among the injured worker, insurance claims adjuster and treating provider.
More than half of ION’s staff are licensed therapists with direct experience treating the conditions they oversee. The company uses that clinical background to guide treatment management and measure outcomes throughout each case.
5th Century Partners plans to work with ION on its business and commercial strategy while maintaining the company’s clinician-led operating model.
The investment is also expected to support broader adoption of ION’s services among payers and injured workers.
Noel will remain Founder and CEO and continue leading the company.
ION has also expanded its leadership team with the appointments of Sara Mulick as Chief Revenue Officer and Alina Schreiber as Chief Financial Officer.
The company will continue operating under the ION PT Network brand and serving payers, third-party administrators, employers and self-insured organizations nationwide.
KEY QUOTES:
“5CP looks for founder-led companies that have built something genuinely differentiated in complex markets, businesses where the model itself is the competitive advantage. ION’s approach to clinical oversight is exactly that. It is difficult to replicate, and it is what earns ION its position with payers. We are committed to helping Joe further build and optimize the business and deliver excellent outcomes to more payers and injured workers.”
Marques Torbert, Managing Partner at 5th Century Partners
“I had options when it came to choosing a partner. What differentiated 5CP was not just the capital. It was the depth of understanding. The 5CP team understands why the clinical model is the core of this business. That is the partnership I wanted.”
Joseph Noel, Founder and CEO of ION PT Network
“ION represents the kind of outcomes-driven organization that we are excited to invest in. Joe and his team have built a model that produces results with a leadership team that knows how to deliver them. We are partnering to refine their go-forward business and commercial strategy while continuing to support their differentiated clinical model. We’ve spent our careers in this industry, and now as investors, we bring unique expertise to help scale the business while protecting what makes it work.”
