Abstract Names Jonathan Eller As Chief Revenue Officer Following $25 Million Funding Round

Jonathan Eller
Abstract has named Jonathan Eller as its first Chief Revenue Officer as the cybersecurity company expands its enterprise go-to-market organization following a $25 million funding round completed in July.

Eller will oversee global sales, channel partnerships, customer success and revenue operations. He will report directly to Abstract co-founder and CEO Colby DeRodeff.

The appointment comes as Abstract looks to scale commercial operations around its composable security operations platform, which is designed to help enterprises move away from monolithic security information and event management, or SIEM, architectures.

Abstract said enterprises are increasingly seeking greater control over security data, artificial intelligence strategies and infrastructure economics rather than relying on a single security platform or vendor ecosystem.

The company’s streaming-first architecture is designed to run security detections directly in the data stream, route information into the destinations and schemas customers already use and support AI-driven security operations through its Astro AI capabilities.

Eller joins Abstract from Concentric AI, where he led global sales.

He brings more than two decades of enterprise cybersecurity sales experience and has also held leadership positions at CrowdStrike, Proofpoint and AccessData.

His hiring follows a period of rapid growth for Abstract.

The company raised $25 million in July, bringing its total funding to nearly $50 million. The financing was completed at three times Abstract’s previous valuation.

At the time of the funding announcement, Abstract reported annual recurring revenue growth of 380%, net revenue retention of 264% and a customer base that had tripled.

The addition of a dedicated Chief Revenue Officer represents another step in building the commercial infrastructure required to support that growth, particularly across enterprise sales, partner channels and customer expansion.

Abstract is positioning its platform around a shift in how enterprise security teams manage rapidly increasing volumes of security data.

Rather than requiring customers to centralize security operations within a traditional SIEM architecture, the company’s approach is intended to allow teams to build security operations around existing data infrastructure while retaining greater control over where information is processed and stored.

AI is another major component of Abstract’s strategy. The company is developing Astro AI to bring artificial intelligence into security operations while allowing enterprises to retain greater control over the underlying data and architecture.

Eller’s role will include expanding adoption of those capabilities as Abstract builds relationships with larger enterprises and develops its channel and customer success operations.

Abstract was founded in 2023 by cybersecurity veterans with experience at ArcSight, Bank of America, Mandiant and Palo Alto Networks.

The company’s platform is currently available through the AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud marketplaces.

KEY QUOTES:

“Our ambition has never been to build another security company. We’re building a generational cybersecurity company that changes how enterprises think about security operations. Customers want control over their data, their architecture, their AI strategy, and their economics, and the monolithic model increasingly stands in the way. Jon understands the magnitude of this opportunity and has the experience to help us take Abstract to the next level.”

Colby DeRodeff, CEO and Co-Founder of Abstract

“I’ve watched Colby, Aaron, and Chris build Abstract for a while, and what struck me is that they’re not trying to build a better version of the old SIEM model — they’re building what comes next. The way enterprises operate has fundamentally changed. The volume of security data has exploded, AI is reshaping the SOC, and yet much of the market is still built around architectures designed decades ago. Abstract has the technology, the team, and the momentum to define the next era of security operations. I joined because I want to help build that company.”
