Accrual has selected Runloop as the production infrastructure provider powering its AI agents across customer deployments. The partnership supports Accrual’s expansion of AI-driven accounting workflows for firms, including Armanino, Creative Planning, and H&R Block.
Accrual describes itself as an augmented accounting intelligence platform designed to help accounting firms streamline workflows while keeping accountants in control of judgment and review processes. The platform consolidates data intake, preparation, review, exception handling, and delivery into a single workspace, where AI agents manage repetitive operational tasks that accounting professionals traditionally handle manually.
According to the company, firms using Accrual have reduced tax preparation time by more than 85 percent and review time by up to 60 percent. Accrual said every 50 complex returns processed through the platform can effectively add the capacity of one accountant. As the company expands beyond individual tax returns into broader accounting workflows, it has standardized on Runloop to manage the underlying AI agent infrastructure.
Siddarth Chandrasekaran, co-founder and CTO of Accrual, explained that accounting-focused AI workflows require significantly greater complexity than traditional chatbot-style systems because they often run for extended periods and operate across multiple systems and datasets.
Runloop said its infrastructure platform combines secure execution, persistent agent coordination, credential and access security, and benchmarking capabilities under a unified control plane for AI agents. The company’s Axon event streams technology allows agents to pause when idle, recover state on demand, hand off workflows between agents, and reconnect during long-running operations while maintaining auditability and credential controls.
Accrual was founded by Cosmin Nicolaescu, formerly CTO of Brex, and Siddarth Chandrasekaran, formerly a principal engineer at Stripe. The company said its mission is to accelerate economic growth through intelligent accounting systems.
KEY QUOTES:
“Production agent workflows in accounting don’t look like chat. They run for hours or days, coordinate across documents, tax engines, and review queues, and have to handle sensitive client financial data with full auditability. Runloop is the only platform that gives us the full agent lifecycle, the coordination layer underneath it, and the security primitives we need to operate inside regulated environments under a single control plane. That lets our team focus on the accounting work the agents do, not the infrastructure they run on.”
Siddarth Chandrasekaran, Co-Founder And CTO, Accrual
“Accounting is one of the clearest examples of AI agents doing real, accountable work inside a regulated industry, which is exactly where infrastructure decisions matter. Most platforms can run a model. Running production agents means coordinating long-running work, recovering from failures, enforcing credential boundaries, and producing an audit trail that accountants and regulators can rely on. Runloop is the only platform built to that standard end-to-end, and Accrual is exactly the customer profile we built for.”
