Adaptiva: Interview With Founder & CEO Dr. Deepak Kumar About The Autonomous Endpoint Management Company

By Amit Chowdhry ● Feb 18, 2025

Adaptiva is an autonomous endpoint management company that delivers the fastest way to patch and manage endpoints at scale. Pulse 2.0 interviewed Adaptiva founder and CEO Dr. Deepak Kumar to learn more about the company.

Dr. Kumar’s Background

Dr. Deepak Kumar

What is Dr. Kumar’s background? Dr. Kumar said:

“I grew up in India and developed a deep and abiding passion for computer science. Over time I found myself increasingly intrigued by the pace of innovation taking place in Silicon Valley, which eventually led me to move to the United States in pursuit of the joy of visualizing and building new things.”

“Prior to founding Adaptiva, I was at Microsoft for several years. When I was on the Windows Networking team, I wrote a Thinkweek paper for Bill Gates, which proposed a vision for universal communications. It led to the creation of Project Greenwich, which eventually acquired Skype for $8 billion and evolved into the Teams product. Later I got intrigued with really big enterprise software and joined the Server and Tools division, where I became one of the principal designers of Microsoft’s SCCM/MEM product, and helped shape the way large organizations manage and secure their endpoints at scale. I was fortunate to help create two billion dollar businesses at Microsoft, and instigate a spate of innovation that is still continuing. Before my time at Microsoft, I led the development of advanced IP Telephony products as a group manager at Nortel, further honing my expertise in communications technology.”

“Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to receive six patents for my work and publish extensively in the field. Today, at Adaptiva, I’m focused on driving innovation in endpoint management and security, helping organizations stay ahead in a constantly evolving landscape.”

Core Products

What are Adaptiva’s core products and features? Dr. Kumar explained:

“Adaptiva’s core products revolve around endpoint management and security, helping organizations protect their systems and remediate vulnerabilities at scale. Our flagship platform, OneSite, is the first fully adaptive autonomous endpoint management platform. It ensures efficient patching and software updates by leveraging unused bandwidth across distributed environments. Key offerings in OneSite include:

— OneSite Patch: Replaces routine patching tasks such as packaging, testing, approvals, and deployments, eliminating manual workloads with a fully autonomous approach. Patches are deployed at scale without network disruption, reducing the chance for human error.

— OneSite Anywhere: Distributes software to devices, even when off-network or in remote environments with minimal infrastructure or low bandwidth.

— OneSite Health: Provides proactive, automated health checks and remediation and offers real-time visibility into endpoint configuration.”

“Each of Adaptiva’s products provide organizations with the flexibility, speed, and control they need to effectively manage endpoint security and ensure systems are always up to date.”

Top Of Mind For IT And Security Teams

Looking into 2025, what issues are top of mind for IT and security teams? Dr. Kumar noted:

“This question was actually the catalyst behind Adaptiva’s recent 2025 State of Patch Management report. We asked more than 250 security and IT professionals key questions on the state of patch management at enterprise organizations and our findings point to what teams should prioritize moving forward. Of note, the report found that 98% of IT and security pros say patching disrupts their work, forcing them to reallocate resources and that 51% say patching is now a bigger issue than vulnerability detection.”

“It’s clear that manual patching is increasingly unsustainable in today’s fast-paced, high-risk environment. The report shows that automation is no longer optional, and teams need to make it a priority to mitigate threats, reduce downtime, and optimize resource use.”

Challenges Faced

What other challenges is the sector facing? Dr. Kumar acknowledged:

“One of the most significant challenges we’re seeing in the industry is the accelerating number of vulnerabilities organizations must contend with. As threats evolve, the sheer volume of vulnerabilities has increased, making it harder for IT teams to keep up. This surge highlights the need for solutions that can autonomously manage and remediate vulnerabilities at scale, without putting undue strain on IT resources.”

“Among the results found in Adaptiva’s report are the delays caused by stakeholder approvals and decision-making. Over half of organizations report that patching has become more challenging than detecting vulnerabilities, with 58% specifically identifying misaligned priorities as a critical bottleneck. These delays disrupt the timely implementation of security measures and leave organizations exposed for extended periods. Addressing these challenges requires streamlined patching processes, improved alignment and collaboration between IT, security, and business teams to reduce delays and enhance overall cybersecurity resilience.”

Overcoming These Issues

Keeping digital assets secure and operational has grown so complex that it now requires a new approach – one where humans set the strategy, and software handles the execution. Dr. Kumar pointed out:

“The industry is now at a critical point of change—autonomous patching is the new frontier. Organizations that have embraced autonomous patching solutions are achieving transformative results. Adoption numbers highlight the growing confidence in automation; those categorized as “autonomous adopters” report significantly reduced vulnerability windows, with the time to patch critical applications dropping by over 50%. These organizations are also seeing a measurable decrease in resource strain, as IT teams can redirect their efforts from manual, time-intensive patching tasks to more strategic initiatives.”

“Moreover, autonomous adopters report fewer incidents of delayed patches due to stakeholder misalignment, reducing their overall risk exposure. Notably, these outcomes translate to real-world benefits: enhanced operational efficiency, reduced downtime, and increased resilience against cyber threats. This shift is allowing IT and security teams to stay ahead of emerging vulnerabilities while aligning with broader organizational goals to secure systems more effectively and efficiently.”

“That’s why I’m particularly excited about where Adaptiva is headed. We’ve been at the forefront of the next chapter in vulnerability remediation, which is autonomous patching with controls. Even before these findings, we were developing features like the ‘big red button,’ allowing organizations to pause, roll back, or stop patches instantly, giving them the peace of mind they need to feel in control. The timing of these innovations aligns perfectly with what the market needs right now—efficient, automated patching solutions that mitigate risk while giving administrators confidence and control over the process.”

Industry Feedback

Has the industry been receptive to what you’re working on? Dr. Kumar concluded:

“The industry has been immensely supportive and receptive to what we’re doing. In some cases, we’ve formed strategic partnerships, such as with CrowdStrike and Tenable, to deliver even more robust security solutions. In others, we’re integrating with leading brands to expand the reach and impact of our products, making sure organizations have seamless access to the tools they need for effective endpoint management.”

“Adaptiva’s innovation has not gone unnoticed. We were recently named the Patch and Configuration Management Award Winner in the 12th Annual Global InfoSec Awards, a testament to the strength of our solutions and the trust our clients and partners place in us, as well as being mentioned in three New Gartner Hype Cycle research reports.”

“There’s no question that endpoint security remains one of the most relentless areas in terms of cyberattacks. That’s why I feel incredibly confident that with our focus on autonomous patching with controls, Adaptiva and our partners are in a strong position to help organizations of every size protect their security posture. Our solutions allow businesses to patch with speed, ease, and, most importantly, peace of mind, ensuring they stay ahead of constantly evolving threats.”
