At the Adobe MAX conference this week, Adobe announced that Photoshop CC will be coming for iPad in 2019. This is considered a fuller version of Photoshop on iOS. Adobe is calling this version “Real Photoshop CC for iPad.”
In fact, the real Photoshop CC for iPad is using the same code as the desktop version in order to provide more of the same feature sets. But the user interface will simply be optimized for finger and Apple Pencil input rather than a mouse.
In the past, Adobe released different apps for handling various functions on iOS such as Photoshop Express, Sketch, and Fix. This was done due to performance limitations of older generation mobile hardware. But now modern tablets and mobile devices have caught up and can now handle robust software applications.
With the “Real Photoshop CC for iPad,” you will be able to sync progress using the exact same files on tablets and PCs such as PSDs. The “Real Photoshop CC for iPad” will also have the signature toolbar and layer management that Photoshop is known for. And it will also have the same tools, filters, masking features, etc.
“The features we’re bringing in first really focus on compositing workflows — bringing in images, combining and manipulating pixels to blend together,” said Adobe senior product manager Jenny Lyell via The Verge. “The features we have in the app right now are around layers, transforming, selections, masking, brushing.”
Photoshop CC on the desktop was also received several improvements recently. For example, a Content-Aware Fill tool was added along with a Frame Tool for masking and resizing images. And there is a new Symmetry Painting feature that allows for mirrored brush strokes along a symmetry axis.
