ADT announced it has acquired Origin AI for $170 million in cash, subject to customary purchase price adjustments, bringing the company’s AI sensing platform and related intellectual property into the ADT ecosystem. The deal is aimed at enhancing ADT’s smart home and security offerings with advanced ambient intelligence capabilities.

Origin AI’s sensing technology enables homes to classify motion and detect human presence without the use of cameras, audio, or wearable devices. Once integrated into ADT’s platform, the technology is expected to unlock new customer use cases and safety enhancements by delivering a deeper understanding of presence, occupancy, motion, and related activity inside the home.

The acquisition includes more than 200 early-priority global patents, forming a foundational intelligence layer designed to support future security and smart home capabilities. ADT said potential applications include aging-in-place solutions, occupancy-based automation, and health-related use cases.

By adding real-time awareness of presence and activity within the home and analyzing anomalies, the technology is expected to provide additional context that could reduce false alarms, improve municipal compliance, and enhance coordination with first responders. The platform also aims to support smarter automation and personalization across connected home environments.

ADT and Origin AI plan to build what they describe as the next phase of intelligent home protection, shifting from reactive alerts toward real-time understanding of in-home activity. ADT expects to begin commercializing new offerings incorporating Origin’s AI sensing technology in 2027.

ADT also noted that it will hold a live conference call and webcast at 10 a.m. ET on Monday, March 2, to discuss its fourth quarter and full year 2025 financial results. Management is expected to provide additional details about the acquisition, broader strategy, and long-term financial outlook during the call.
