Advanced Power, an ArcLight Capital Partners portfolio company, has appointed Peter Podurgiel as President and a member of its board of directors, adding an executive with more than 25 years of experience developing and commercializing large-scale power generation projects.
Podurgiel will also serve as a Senior Advisor to ArcLight Capital Partners while working alongside Tom Spang, CEO of Advanced Power, to expand the company’s power infrastructure business.
The appointment comes as Advanced Power develops a project pipeline exceeding 15 gigawatts, targeting demand from utilities, hyperscale technology companies, data center developers, and other major electricity customers.
Podurgiel previously served as President of Competitive Power Ventures (CPV), where he spent more than 25 years helping develop the company’s power generation business.
He joined CPV shortly after its founding and subsequently held several senior leadership positions.
As President of CPV Low Carbon Generation, he oversaw the development, construction, and commercialization of natural gas-fired power generation projects across the United States and Canada.
During his tenure, Podurgiel commercialized and transacted more than 11 gigawatts of power projects, giving him extensive experience across the different stages of large-scale energy infrastructure development.
He previously served as CPV’s Executive Vice President of Project Development and helped develop the company’s asset management strategy and business development activities.
Earlier in his career, Podurgiel helped develop more than 2 gigawatts of power projects at U.S. Generating Company.
He also worked in commercial real estate development at New England Development and The Pyramid Companies.
At Advanced Power, Podurgiel will oversee the company’s day-to-day activities, including project development, commercial operations, engineering, construction, and asset management.
His responsibilities will include advancing the company’s existing development pipeline while strengthening its ability to deliver new power generation infrastructure.
Founded in 2000, Advanced Power develops, manages, and owns power generation assets.
The company has successfully developed approximately 6 gigawatts of thermal and renewable power generation projects across the United States and Europe.
Its current development portfolio includes more than 10 gigawatts of thermal power projects.
Advanced Power maintains offices in Boston and Houston and is expanding its North American project development activities.
The company’s growth strategy is supported by ArcLight Capital Partners, which has invested in energy and infrastructure assets since 2001.
ArcLight reports having owned, controlled, or operated more than 70 gigawatts of power assets and approximately 48,000 miles of electric and natural gas transmission and storage infrastructure.
Those assets represent more than $90 billion in enterprise value.
The investment firm operates across power generation, renewable energy, battery storage, electric transmission, and natural gas infrastructure.
Its portfolio also includes investments designed to address increasing demand for electricity associated with artificial intelligence and data center development.
Advanced Power intends to combine Podurgiel’s project development experience with ArcLight’s capital resources, operating expertise, and infrastructure investment capabilities.
The company is targeting opportunities to develop power generation systems capable of supporting growing electricity demand from hyperscale computing facilities and other energy-intensive customers.
The expansion comes as utilities and technology companies evaluate new generation resources to address growing electricity requirements and limitations in existing infrastructure.
Advanced Power believes its development expertise and project pipeline position it to participate in these opportunities as customers pursue new electricity generation capacity.
Podurgiel will lead the company’s execution strategy while Spang continues serving as CEO.
