Advent: $1 Billion Commitment To Next-Generation Defense Technology Investment Strategy

Advent International, a global private equity firm, announced a commitment to invest up to $1 billion in next-generation defense technology companies, reinforcing its long-standing focus on the defense sector and national security innovation.

The initiative builds on Advent’s established investment strategy, which has emphasized backing companies that support critical national security priorities. The firm is targeting advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and autonomous systems, aiming to scale solutions that enhance resilience and modernize defense capabilities.

Since 2020, Advent has deployed more than $15 billion across the global defense sector, including investments in companies such as Cobham, Ultra Electronics, Vantor, and Attalon. This sustained level of investment highlights a consistent strategy that predates recent geopolitical shifts.

As part of the new commitment, Advent has signed a definitive agreement to make an initial investment in Shield AI, co-leading the company’s $1.5 billion Series G funding round. The round values Shield AI at $12.7 billion. Founded in 2015, Shield AI develops AI-powered autonomous systems designed to support air operations, with a mission focused on protecting service members and civilians.

Advent said it will leverage its ecosystem of executives, government relationships, and operational expertise to support defense technology companies in areas including go-to-market strategy, manufacturing scale, mergers and acquisitions, and capital markets.

The Shield AI transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
