Aiven To Build On Implementing Real-Time Data Platforms In The Cloud With New Funding Round

Cloud data platform provider Aiven launched its data cloud in 2016 with a suite of the best open source data infrastructure services — which now include the Apache Kafka event streaming engine and databases like PostgreSQL and Apache Cassandra. The company was founded by CEO Oskari Saarenmaa, CTO Heikki Nousiainen, and VP of Product Hannu Valtonen.

Currently, Aiven’s services cover all the needs of complex Internet applications and it has earned the trust of a growing number of customers like Atlassian, Comcast, and OVO Energy. Aiven is considered an ISO 27001 certified cloud data platform provider that operates managed open-source database, event streaming, cache, search, and graphing solutions for more than 400 customers worldwide.

And recently, Aiven completed an €8 million Series A funding round for enhancing its leading cloud data platform with more integrated solutions to accelerate international growth. This round of funding was led by Earlybird Venture Capital. Lifeline Ventures and Nokia chairman Risto Siilasmaa also joined this round. In conjunction with this round of funding, Earlybird co-founder and partner Dr. Hendrik Brandis is joining Aiven’s board.

“We see a tremendous number of companies around the world now implementing their new real-time data platforms in the cloud. The new funding will allow us to better cater to their requirements,” said Saarenmaa in a statement.

Aiven is known for being committed to open source and will step up in its participation. This includes creating new open-source tools like Kafka connectors and feature development and quality assurance of the core projects.

“Aiven’s ability to outcompete established market players and build a highly capital efficient international business is impressive. We’re eager to become a part of the story and continue growing the company,” added Brandis.
