Akamai and MuleSoft have expanded their technology integration to combine real-time API security intelligence with governance for AI agents, APIs and Model Context Protocol servers, helping enterprises identify and manage security risks across increasingly distributed AI environments.
The integration connects Akamai API Security with MuleSoft Agent Fabric, establishing a bidirectional data synchronization layer between the platforms. More than 20 joint customers are already using the integration.
The collaboration addresses growing security challenges created by unmonitored APIs, shadow AI deployments and MCP servers. Akamai cited its 2026 API Security Impact Study, in which 87% of organizations reported experiencing an API-related security incident during 2025.
MuleSoft Exchange automatically synchronizes API specifications and environment data with Akamai, enabling security teams to compare live traffic with intended API designs and identify issues such as undocumented or obsolete endpoints.
Akamai simultaneously analyzes API activity from connected environments and feeds behavioral analytics and threat-risk scores into MuleSoft’s unified control plane. This provides organizations with additional visibility into APIs and MCP servers that could otherwise remain hidden.
MuleSoft Agent Fabric provides management, governance and policy controls spanning APIs, MCP servers, AI agents and AI interactions. Akamai adds dedicated capabilities for API discovery, security posture assessment, runtime analysis and testing.
The combination is designed to help enterprises understand which APIs and AI infrastructure are operating across their environments, determine whether they are governed appropriately and identify where additional security measures are required.
The expanded integration is currently available. Akamai plans additional updates during the second half of 2026, including native MuleSoft onboarding capabilities and expanded runtime security for AI and MCP environments.
