Akin announced that Dilen Kumar has joined the firm’s corporate practice as a partner based in Dallas, further strengthening its global private equity platform and enhancing its capabilities in mergers and acquisitions, investment strategies, and capital structures.
Kumar’s arrival continues a series of recent additions across Akin’s private equity practice. The firm recently welcomed the return of United States private equity head Gerald Brant, along with partners Jeffrey Kochian and Brittany Harrison in New York and Jonathon Hamil in London.
Kumar advises private equity sponsors and both public and private companies on acquisitions, divestitures, carve-outs, minority investments, and corporate governance matters. His experience spans multiple industries, including healthcare, technology, energy, and consumer sectors. He also brings expertise in distressed transactions, special situations, and complex board-level matters.
According to Akin, expanding its integrated private equity platform remains a strategic priority. The firm believes Kumar’s experience strengthens its ability to support clients across a broad range of transactions while enhancing coordination between its private equity and capital solutions practices.
The firm noted that clients are increasingly facing more complicated investment environments that require legal advisors capable of operating across various transaction structures and market conditions. Kumar’s background in traditional M&A, special situations, and governance issues is expected to further differentiate Akin’s offering to private equity clients.
Kumar said he was attracted to Akin because of its ability to connect expertise across multiple practices and support clients throughout the entire investment lifecycle. He emphasized that today’s transactions are becoming increasingly multidimensional and require integrated advisory capabilities.
Akin’s corporate and finance practice includes more than 300 transactional lawyers located across major financial centers in the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The firm’s private equity practice works closely with its capital solutions, restructuring, tax, and fund formation teams to provide comprehensive advice to alternative asset managers, financial sponsors, and companies around the world.
Overall, Akin employs more than 1,000 lawyers across offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
