Algebris (UK) Limited said it has appointed Jon Cunliffe as a non-executive director and chair, following approval by the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority, with the appointment effective Jan. 1, 2026.
The firm said Cunliffe will work with the board and executive team to support Algebris’ UK strategy and the long-term growth of the Algebris Investments Group, citing his experience in senior public service and financial policy and his background in governance and oversight within the UK financial system.
Cunliffe previously served as deputy governor of the Bank of England for financial stability from 2013 to 2023. During that period, he sat on the Bank’s Court of Directors, the Financial Policy Committee, the Monetary Policy Committee, and the board of the Prudential Regulation Authority, according to the announcement.
Before joining the Bank of England, Cunliffe was the UK permanent representative to the European Union, starting in January 2012. He also served as the prime minister’s adviser on Europe and global issues and the UK sherpa for the G8 and G20 between 2007 and 2011, and earlier held senior roles at HM Treasury, including second permanent secretary and managing director of the macroeconomic and international finance directorate.
