Alpen High Performance Products has completed the initial $6 million closing of a planned $10 million Series B round to expand manufacturing and meet demand for its high-efficiency windows and architectural glass products.
The financing was led by Inherent Capital and Arborview Capital. Alpen plans to use the capital as operating funding while increasing production capacity and improving manufacturing efficiency.
The company reported growth of more than 50% during the past two and a half years. Demand has been driven by its thin-glass insulated glass units, Winsert secondary glazing products and fiberglass windows.
Insulated glass units use two or more panes separated by insulating spaces to reduce heat transfer through a window. Alpen’s thin-glass products are designed to produce stronger thermal performance without requiring the weight and thickness associated with some conventional multilayer systems.
The company has installed automated manufacturing equipment for insulated glass units that can provide insulating performance as high as R15. Higher R-values generally indicate greater resistance to heat flow, although the performance of a complete installed window also depends on its frame, seals, installation and other components.
Alpen also manufactures fiberglass and unplasticized polyvinyl chloride windows, doors and secondary glazing systems. Secondary glazing adds an additional interior window layer to improve the performance of an existing opening without fully removing the original window.
Sales of Winsert and Alpen’s commercial windows have increased by more than four times. The company has also begun supplying thin-glass insulated units to other North American window and door manufacturers, creating a third-party component business alongside its finished-product operations.
Alpen has operated for more than 40 years and serves both commercial and residential construction markets.
