Alta Ares announced a €50 million funding round led by Air Street Capital, with participation from Cherry Ventures, OTB Ventures, and Harpoon Ventures. The financing comes as the defense technology company experiences strong commercial momentum, supported by multi-million-euro contracts and active deployments across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
Founded in 2024 and shaped by operational experience from the conflict in Ukraine, Alta Ares develops air defense and edge AI technologies designed to counter modern aerial threats. The company positions itself as a capability provider, offering an integrated architecture that combines AI-powered detection, identification, and interception.
Alta Ares currently develops two classes of interceptors. Its X-Lock system is designed to counter Shahed-136-type drones with a 15-kilometer operational radius, while Black Bird targets high-speed threats such as cruise missiles and glide bombs with a range of 30 kilometers. The systems are engineered to operate in both arctic and desert environments.
The company said its technologies are currently deployed across three active conflict zones simultaneously, providing a competitive advantage through real-time operational feedback. NATO recognized Alta Ares with an innovation award in March 2025 and continues to support the company’s technological development.
The new funding will support industrialization, product development, international expansion, and hiring. Alta Ares plans to increase engineering and operational headcount by the end of the year, strengthen production capabilities in France and Ukraine, and open offices in the Middle East and Asia.
Alta Ares is advised by senior military leaders, including Philippe Lavigne, former Chief of Staff of the French Air and Space Force and former NATO Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, and General Corentin Lancrenon, a three-star French Army general.
