Alta Smiles, a developer of orthodontic technology, has completed a Series Seed extension financing round as the company expands commercialization of its C5 Hidden Orthodontics system. The amount raised was not disclosed.
Run Ventures led the financing, with participation from Stokes Stevenson McMaster Health Ventures and follow-on investor Dental Innovation Alliance. Alta Smiles plans to use the funding primarily to accelerate commercialization and market awareness while expanding the capabilities of its technology platform.
C5 Hidden Orthodontics uses patented nickel titanium wire technology to straighten teeth without traditional brackets. The system is placed on the back of patients’ teeth, making it largely hidden, and does not require the patient compliance associated with removable clear aligners.
Alta Smiles said it has continued expanding its intellectual property portfolio and repository of clinical cases as adoption grows among orthodontists and general dentists.
Alongside the financing, the company appointed two dental industry veterans to its board. Dan McMaster, a former 3M Health Care executive, and Gene Dorff, a former Dentsply Sirona executive and current CEO of Solmetex, have joined the board as Alta Smiles prepares for its next stage of commercialization.
