Amazon has announced a new compact Echo smart display device that is arriving next month for a price of $89.99. The Show 5 has a 5.5-inch screen, a built-in camera, and a speaker. There are two color options for the Show 5 including charcoal and sandstone. And Amazon is also selling a separate $19.99 magnetic stand for tilting the device.
In terms of security and privacy, Amazon added a visible shutter switch on the device to turn off the camera. This switch visibly covers the camera.
This is not the only smart display device that Amazon sells. It also offers the round-shaped Echo Spot device for $129.99.
Plus the Echo Show 5 also faces competition from rivals like Google and Facebook. Google sells the Nest Home Hub for $129 and the Facebook Portal is priced at $199. Soon Lenovo is going to sell an alarm clock with Google Assistant at a price of only $79.
Amazon has also announced a new “Alexa Privacy Hub” feature, which will be available on the web and the Alexa app. This allows you have to have quick access to your privacy settings. And it will contain educational videos about how to use Alexa and it provides guidance on privacy controls.
