Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced the launch of the Agentic Shopping Assistant on AWS, a new AI retail solution that enables retailers to build their own conversational shopping experiences using technology and expertise developed through Amazon’s Alexa for Shopping platform.
The solution packages architecture guidance, starter code, and expert support from the AWS Generative AI Innovation Center, allowing retailers to deploy AI-powered shopping assistants in weeks rather than years. Retailers can customize the platform using their own catalog data, business rules, customer insights, and brand voice.
According to Amazon, more than 300 million customers used its AI shopping assistant capabilities last year, helping drive nearly $12 billion in incremental sales. The company said those learnings were instrumental in developing the Agentic Shopping Assistant offering for external retail customers.
AWS noted that conversational shopping sessions convert at 3.5 times the rate of traditional keyword search, creating a strong business case for retailers to establish their own AI shopping presence rather than relying on general-purpose AI platforms.
The platform is built on AWS services including Amazon Bedrock, AgentCore, and OpenSearch. Amazon said the solution has been validated through billions of shopping interactions on Amazon.com while remaining customizable for each retailer’s unique needs.
The first production deployment of the technology was launched by Kate Spade, a brand owned by Tapestry. On April 13, the company introduced the Kate Spade AI Gift Concierge, described as the first production-ready retail AI assistant built with Amazon Bedrock AgentCore.
Designed to help customers navigate gift purchases, the AI Gift Concierge engages shoppers in conversations about occasions, recipients, and style preferences before generating personalized recommendations. The system was developed using shopper behavior insights and lessons learned from customer interactions with Alexa for Shopping.
Amazon said the solution can typically be deployed in approximately 60 days with guidance from the AWS Generative AI Innovation Center team.
