Amazon announced plans to invest $12 billion to construct new, state-of-the-art data center campuses in Louisiana, marking the company’s first data center presence in the state and a major expansion of its U.S. cloud and AI infrastructure footprint.
The coordinated, multi-site development will span Caddo and Bossier Parishes in northwest Louisiana and is designed to support cloud computing technologies and the rising demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure. Construction is expected to begin in the coming weeks, with operations launching in phases over the next several years.
The project is expected to create 540 new direct on-site jobs. Louisiana Economic Development estimates the development will support an additional 1,700 indirect jobs across the northwest region. The investment is also projected to generate significant new tax revenue, benefiting local schools, public services, and infrastructure improvements.
Amazon said Louisiana stood out for its reliable power, skilled workforce, and track record of executing complex projects at scale. The company emphasized that the campuses will be interconnected to enable continuous service and operational reliability while delivering economic benefits across both parishes.
Amazon’s Chief Global Affairs and Legal Officer David Zapolsky said the $12 billion investment will build next-generation data center campuses to support AI and cloud computing while creating high-paying jobs and strengthening local infrastructure. He noted the company’s appreciation for partnerships with state and local leaders as Amazon deepens its commitment to Louisiana.
Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry said investments of this magnitude position the state at the center of operations relied on across the country and connect communities to jobs that power how Americans live and work. LED Secretary Susan B. Bourgeois added that projects like this activate local supply chains, create new opportunities for vendors, and open pathways to high-wage careers.
Amazon is partnering with STACK Infrastructure to lead the construction and development of the campuses. STACK expects the project to support up to 1,500 construction jobs, creating opportunities for local contractors, skilled trades, and suppliers. STACK Americas CEO Matt VanderZanden said the project highlights the company’s ability to execute multi-site data center developments in coordination with utilities and local partners.
Amazon also worked with Southwestern Electric Power Company to ensure it will pay 100 percent of the costs associated with new energy infrastructure and upgrades required to serve the campuses. SWEPCO President and Chief Operating Officer Brett Mattison said the region offers a strong environment for economic development, supported by a stable regulatory framework and competitive utility rates.
The investment builds on Amazon’s broader presence in Louisiana. From 2010 to 2024, the company invested more than $4.7 billion in the state, operating fulfillment and sortation centers, delivery stations, Whole Foods Market locations and solar energy projects that contribute to the state’s power grid.
To secure the project, Louisiana offered a competitive incentives package that includes workforce development support through LED FastStart. Amazon is also expected to participate in the state’s High Impact Jobs and Data Center Sales Tax Exemption programs.
