Ambio Raises €5.1 Million Seed Led By b2venture For AI-Native Recycled Plastics Procurement

Ambio has raised €5.1 million in seed funding to expand its AI-native recycled-plastics procurement platform. The round was led by b2venture, with participation from Montis and existing investor Lifeline Ventures.

The Helsinki-based company has developed an end-to-end procurement solution that covers the recycled plastics purchasing cycle, from material discovery and qualification to long-term deliveries. Ambio is seeking to make recycled polymers easier and more predictable for industrial buyers to purchase at scale.

Ambio is targeting a market in which procurement remains fragmented and highly manual. Recycled polymers can vary substantially in quality by source, batch, and processing history, and relevant data may be incomplete; quality is sometimes confirmed only after the material reaches a production line. The company believes better verification infrastructure can help recycled plastics become a more dependable industrial input.

The platform qualifies materials using samples, documentation, and defined quality protocols while creating structured information around materials, suppliers, pricing, and transaction outcomes. Ambio’s matching engine uses this growing dataset to improve matching, quoting, and execution over time.

Rather than operating solely as a software or data provider, Ambio also acts as the supplier to industrial buyers and takes responsibility for quality assurance across the supply chain. The company believes this model can address trust and transparency issues that have limited broader adoption of recycled materials.

The new capital will support Ambio’s international expansion and growth across additional polymer types. The company plans to expand its platform throughout Europe and beyond while continuing to build its dataset and agentic AI capabilities.

Ambio currently has teams in Helsinki, Berlin, and Stockholm. Its long-term goal is to become a pan-European trust layer for the recyclates market by making recycled plastics as predictable to procure as virgin polymers.

KEY QUOTES:

“People in the industry like to talk about regulation and the EU. We are a startup, we cannot yet impact what happens in Brussels. What we can impact is the purchasing experience for the buyer. When you’re buying virgin plastics, you know exactly what you’re getting. When you’re buying recycled, you’ll know if it works when it’s running in your production line. Our goal is to predict if the material works or not before sampling even happens.”

Tommi Bergström, CEO Of Ambio

“We are backing Ambio not only because of the talented team led by Tommi and Elmo but also because of the compounding competitive moat the business is built on: a proprietary dataset on recyclate quality, a principal model that builds trust with buyers and sellers, and an agentic engine that turns every transaction and quality data point into improved matchmaking. We are convinced that Ambio will become the central marketplace for recycled plastics in Europe and beyond.”
