Dongfeng Li’s Background
What is Dongfeng Li’s background? Li said:
“In 1994, my wife and I co-founded a company specializing in the international trade of home textiles, primarily serving the U.S. market. In December 1996, I began working with traditional American patchwork quilts and have since focused on promoting this American quilting tradition to younger generations in a cost-effective way. To reduce manufacturing expenses, I developed several unique methods, which have been patented under my name over the years.”
“In 2017, I established American Heritage Textiles, LLC in Kentucky by acquiring the assets of a former partner company that had been purchasing my quilts since 1996. I hold a bachelor’s degree in International Trade and two MBAs, the most recent from the Bauer Business School at the University of Houston.”

What has been your favorite memory working for the company so far? Li shared:
“I take great pride in transforming beautiful traditional quilts into affordable consumer treasures. These quilts have brought joy to countless homes and have played a crucial role in supporting hundreds of Mom-and-Pop gift shops across the US, helping them thrive amidst the fierce competition from online retailers.”

“The past few years have brought significant challenges to our industry, but we’ve worked tirelessly to navigate them and adapt to changing circumstances. During the COVID-19 pandemic, as a supplier of essential daily life products, we prioritized the safety of our staff by strictly adhering to all rules and policies to combat the virus. At the same time, we maintained operations, ensuring smooth shipping across the US and keeping our supply chain as efficient as possible to meet customer needs.”
“Post-pandemic, we faced another major hurdle: the surge in international sea freight costs, which put considerable pressure on our profit margins. To address this, we optimized our packaging processes, shrinking the volume of our shipments to reduce freight expenses without compromising product quality or delivery timelines.”
“More recently, we’ve been navigating the challenges of high inflation and decreased consumer purchasing power. We’ve focused on controlling internal costs, streamlining operations, and negotiating better purchasing prices with overseas vendors to mitigate these impacts. These efforts have allowed us to maintain affordability for our customers while sustaining our business in a highly competitive and ever-changing market.”
