Campusbug is a combination of social networking, education, and ecommerce. Campusbug is to be used as portal for everyday student needs. Vak Sambath founded MedMania, Inc. which created Campusbug as a spinoff.
The first feature that I like about Campusbug is that when you register, it does not ask you to check your e-mail to confirm that you are a valid user. As soon as I created an account, I could immediately login with the username and password that I chose. As soon as I logged in, I was greeted with a message and a friend request by some chap named Mel:
I guess he may be equivalent of MySpace’s Tom.
Every user on Campusbug can make their own URLs through the Campusbug domain. Users can maintain a blog on Campusbug and users can create Polls, which I’m sure is prone to abuse.
I would say that the above-mentioned features are detractive, but there are some attractive features that kept me on the website for longer than 20 minutes. For example, there is a feature that is called “The Test Room” where you can select from a variety of standard achievement exams. There is a collection of sample AP, ACT, GMAT, SAT, MCAT, LSAT, and DAT questions.
There is also a Bibliography template creator which is similar to Noodletools’ Bibliography creator. Some of the other features that seem that could be of some use for academics are features called EZ-Writing (where you can get help on essays), Classifieds (where you can sell books or other materials), and Study Tools (where users can sell each other class notes). These tools are still in development and Campusbug should be expected to be going mobile soon as well.
Although I am skeptical about whether this website will actually be considered as a source of academic use and actually recommended by professors, I could be wrong. I guess we will find out in due time, but for now, make sure to test your knowledge in The Test Room.
