Andreessen Horowitz Appoints Gaby Goldberg As Partner On New Media Team

Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) has appointed Gaby Goldberg as a Partner on its New Media team, where she will focus on the intersection of communications, networks, and investing. The move marks a new chapter for Goldberg, whose career has spanned early-stage investing, communications leadership, writing, and community building.

Goldberg announced the transition in a recent post, explaining that her professional journey has consistently centered on three areas: investing, communications, and building networks. Most recently, she worked in communications at Rostra while continuing to develop thought leadership and community initiatives around the technology and startup ecosystem.

According to Goldberg, one of the defining challenges throughout her career was the perception that these interests represented separate professional paths. Rather than identifying exclusively as a communications executive, investor, writer, or community builder, she sought an opportunity that would allow her to combine all of those disciplines into a single role.

The opportunity emerged through discussions with Erik Torenberg, who leads a16z’s New Media efforts. Goldberg said Torenberg presented a vision that would enable her to pursue all of her interests under one organization and at a scale she believed would be difficult to achieve elsewhere.

The New Media team at Andreessen Horowitz has become an increasingly important part of the firm’s broader strategy, helping portfolio companies, founders, and industry leaders build influence, communicate ideas, and create communities around emerging technologies and startups. Goldberg’s experience across investing, communications, and network-building aligns with that mission.

In her announcement, Goldberg described a16z as the ideal environment to bring together the full range of her interests, capabilities, and long-term ambitions. She also highlighted her longstanding relationship with Torenberg, noting that he has been one of her earliest supporters since her college years.

As part of her new role, Goldberg said she looks forward to working closely with Torenberg and the broader Andreessen Horowitz team while helping recruit additional talent for the firm.

Before officially beginning her position, Goldberg said she plans to take a brief break and reflect between roles. She also noted that she remains accessible and welcomes conversations from her network during the transition period.
