AngloGold Ashanti Appoints Former Rio Tinto Lithium CEO Paul Graves To Board Of Directors

AngloGold Ashanti has appointed Paul Graves as an independent Non-Executive Director, effective October 1, 2026, adding an executive with more than 30 years of experience across natural resources, corporate finance, and public company leadership.

Graves will serve on the company’s Audit and Risk Committee and Social, Ethics and Sustainability Committee, expanding the board’s experience in financial oversight, corporate governance, and the natural resources industry.

Graves most recently served as Chief Executive of Rio Tinto Lithium, following Rio Tinto’s acquisition of Arcadium Lithium.

Before that transaction, he served as President and CEO of Arcadium Lithium, overseeing the business as it developed its position in the global lithium industry.

His executive background also includes serving as President and CEO of Livent Corporation, another major lithium producer.

The positions provided him with experience in the development and operation of mineral resource businesses, corporate strategy, international markets, and capital investment.

Before his leadership roles in lithium, Graves served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of FMC Corporation from 2012 to 2018.

At FMC, he gained senior financial management experience within a global company operating across chemicals and related markets.

Earlier in his career, Graves spent 12 years at Goldman Sachs, where he became a partner and held several senior investment banking positions.

His responsibilities included serving as Head of Natural Resources Asia and Global Head of Chemical Investment Banking.

The combination of investment banking and corporate executive experience provides Graves with a background in capital allocation, financing, mergers and acquisitions, and international natural resources markets.

These capabilities are relevant to AngloGold Ashanti’s investment requirements as a global gold mining company.

As an independent director, Graves will participate in board oversight while contributing his experience across financial management, resource development, and corporate strategy.

His appointment to the Audit and Risk Committee will involve oversight responsibilities associated with the company’s financial reporting and risk management framework.

His participation in the Social, Ethics and Sustainability Committee will also bring his natural resources industry experience to discussions involving the company’s broader operating responsibilities.

Graves currently serves on the board of Charles River Laboratories International.

At Charles River, he chairs the Strategic Planning and Capital Allocation Committee and is a member of the Audit Committee.

His existing public company board responsibilities complement his previous experience as a chief executive and chief financial officer.

AngloGold Ashanti Chairman Jochen Tilk identified Graves’ international leadership experience and financial background as important qualifications for the appointment.

The addition will strengthen the company’s board as it continues implementing its long-term business strategy.

KEY QUOTE:

“Paul brings to the Board a rare combination of international executive leadership, deep financial discipline and decades of experience across commodities and natural resources. His skill set and impressive track record will bring exceptional value to AngloGold Ashanti as we continue to execute on our long-term strategy.”

Jochen Tilk, Chairman Of AngloGold Ashanti
